TDSB launches consultations on the future needs of K-12 students

The Toronto District School Board has just launched a series of consultations to address future needs of TDSB students in Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Read the details below is this message quoted from the TDSB announcement email:
These consultations are an opportunity to contribute to the future of our students in our schools. The conversations will ensure our future plans are based on the programs that best support our students as we develop a plan to guide us into the future. Simply put, we need the right programs in the right spaces in the right places.
We know how important it is to have the right opportunities and supports in place to prepare students for the future as they transition from TDSB schools to future learning choices, careers and life as responsible, caring citizens in our democratic society.
Over the course of the next few weeks we will be consulting at SuperCouncil Meetings, Quad Dialogues, FOS Focus Groups, 4 City Wide Forums, Ward Councils as requested, FOS Meetings, TSAA Executive Meeting, Employee Group Executive Meetings, and Senior Team Council. Community members will also have the opportunity to participate online by filling out a survey or participating in a virtual consultation session.
We want to begin by starting an open, inclusive dialogue around how we can bridge today’s education with the future needs of schools and learning. The dates and times for the city wide consultations are below. All meetings are from 7 – 9 pm.
Tuesday, November 6
Sir John A Macdonald CI, 2300 Pharmacy Ave, Scarborough, ON

Potential Closure of 54 Division

Future of 54 Division in Question

54 Division of the Toronto Police Service is slated for a new station in 2014.  However, Chief Bill Blair is examining closing or merging 54 Division with other divisions to reduce operating and capital costs. The $36 million allocation in the 10 year Police budget capital plan for the re-build of the station at 54 Division could be cut. Two consultations were held in East York to hear resident views. Overwhelmingly, attendees said 54 Division should not be closed, and the City should proceed with the new building. Chief Blair is expected to report on his findings in November. To learn more or get involved send an email to or write Chief Bill Blair

Also please come to the 54 Division, Community Police Liaison Committee Town Hall on Thursday October 25th, at 6:30 PM in the East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Avenue.

Having our division close and possibly merge with surrounding divisions will mean a big loss to this community and division. There are the issues of the potential loss of community policing and potential wait times for response, and possible increase in crime.

You may wish to join the Friends of 54 Facebook page .

At the last school council meeting, it was suggested that a parent committee be formed to review the challenges involved in the integration of two new programs to Earl Beatty: full-day kindergarten and French immersion senior kindergarten. This committee will brainstorm lessons learned and solutions that can be shared with the school. Two kindergarten parents have volunteered to lead this "kindergarten advisory group". If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Idella Sturino ( and Carla Eastwood ( It's a short-term commitment for a long-term gain for our school, so please give some serious thought to participating.

Calling All Bakers!!

On Saturday, May 26, from 10:00 to 3:00 p.m., Earl Beatty will be holding its annual Fun Fair.  This is the biggest fundraiser event of the year (OK, besides this year's incredibly successful silent auction, at which $6000 was raised), so we're asking you to promote the fair to everyone you know.  The current weather reports look great, so it will be even more fabulous.

Running around and spending all your money requires tremendous energy, and one is usually hungry after about half an hour. To help with that, the fun fair always has baked goods available for a modest price. We need all sorts of baked goods! Please bring your NUT FREE cookies, muffins, cupcakes, etc., to the bake sale table after 9:00 a.m.

The amazing Malika Hollander has organized the bake sale for years, if you need any further information, please contact her at: .

See you on Saturday, May 26 for another fun-filled and successful Earl Beatty Fun Fair.

EBSAC Meeting Tonight

Please join the Earl Beatty School Advisory Council for their monthly meeting at 6 pm on Thursday, May 3. Read the Agenda

Here are the minutes from the April 12 meeting.

Friday, 27 April 2012

We woke to an overcast sky and a bit of rain, but it broke by time 10am came along. Over a dozen families braved the chill and met in front of Earl Beatty to take on the task of cleaning up the neighbourhood. Moms, Dads, and kids donned gloves and carried bags to their assigned spots - the front playground, the back playground, the parking lot, and all the streets that surround the Earl Beatty Community were picked clear of litter. The gardens and the playgrounds got a good sprucing too - wood chips swept and put back where they belong and last year's perennials and shrubs pruned for the spring.

We shared our stories and drank hot chocolate after we were done. This event was hosted by the Earl Beatty School, Eco-team and Community Centre. Thanks to all who participated - the grounds and surrounding streets are ready for the warmer weather.

April 21st - Earl Beatty Parent's Night Out

Hello Earl Beatty Parents!

Our first annual parent's evening, Enchantment Under the Stairs, is fast approaching.  Click here to view a letter about the event, including some info on the silent auction.  We've received some fantastic donations, and there are over 70 people RSVP'd so far - it promises to be a really great night!  We're trying to reach 100 people, so please, spread the news about this great night out.

Earl Beatty parents, we could use your help with a couple of the final touches.  We have two requests:

 1) APPETIZERS: We are looking for a few people to donate a plate of appetizers.  If you are willing to contribute a plate of your favourite pot luck appetizer/nibblies, please let our food coordinator know by emailing Prashna Gajjar:

 2) LIGHTS:  We are using white Christmas lights to decorate the room and need more. We know it means digging into your Christmas storage box, but we would really appreciate the donation. If you have a string (or two) of white lights, please email Erica and Lori at We will arrange to get them from you, and to get them back to you!  And, if you can drop them off at the council meeting on Thursday even better, but make sure they have your name on them!

Fun, food, friends, and FUNDS - what more could you ask for on a Saturday night!  See you on April 21 at 7:00 p.m.
